IFA story of Obatala and Esuu

The Ifá story that features an argument between Òrìsànlá and Èṣù about which of them was the oldest Òrìsà.

One day, Òrìsànlá and Èṣù began to argue about which of them was the oldest Òrìsà. Òrìsànlá claimed that he was the oldest, as he had been created by Olódùmarè, the supreme deity in Yorùbá pantheon, before any other Òrìsà.

Èṣù, on the other hand, argued that he was the oldest, as he had been present at the beginning of creation and had witnessed the birth of all the other Òrìsà.

The argument between Òrìsànlá and Èṣù became so heated that they decided to consult Ifá, the Yorùbá system of divination, to settle the matter. They both cast divination, and the oracle revealed that Òrìsànlá was indeed the oldest Òrìsà, as he had been created by Olódùmarè before any other deity.

Èṣù accepted the verdict of Ifá and acknowledged Òrìsànlá as the oldest Òrìsà. However, he also pointed out that he was still present at the beginning of creation and had witnessed the birth of all the other Òrìsà, making him a very ancient and powerful deity in his own right.

This version of the Ifá story highlights the importance of respect for tradition and the wisdom of elders, as well as the power of divination in settling disputes and conflicts.
