JAGUN-JAGUN: An allusion to Ajíbógundé lineage ( Làgbàyí ará Ọ̀jọwọ̀n)
This lineage in Yorùbá land is known for a professional wood carving. They (Làgbàyís) are well oriented in making beautiful things out of different kind of trees. Wood carving is to Làgbàyís as making of medicines/herbs is to Àrágberí lineage. They are very popular in the society, highly respected in the palaces and every traditional spiritual centres.
In the movie JAGUNJAGUN, Mr Fẹ́mi Adébáyọ̀ has artistically alluded to this great lineage through a character named GBỌ́TÌJÀ.
In the movie, Gbọ́tìjà hails from Ọ̀wọ́n/Ìjọwọ̀n/Ọ̀jọwọ̀n, his father’s name is Làgbàyí. It should be cleared here that, Làgbàyí is a general name for wood carvers in Yorùbá society, however it is the name of their forefather in Ajíbógundé lineage. Ọ̀wọ̀n, a short word for Ìjọwọ̀n is a tradition home or origin of Làgbàyís, that is why they are always referred to as
“Làgbàyí ará Ọ̀jọwọ̀n “
They posses the art of making beautiful things our of trees /wood, be it, furniture, effigies or any other beautiful and useful objects. The affinity of Làgbàyís with trees is well established in the movie Jagunjagun and this is evident in Gbọ́tìjà’s statement whenever he is in danger;
°Igi ọkọ gbàmí(Forest trees, rescue me)
°Ìrókò mo ti bá ọ múlẹ̀, má dà mí ( Ìrókò tree, I’ve had a bond with you, don’t let me down) and so on.
Without mincing words, Mr Fẹ́mi Adébáyọ̀ has dramatically reminded us about the lineage of Ajíbógundé.

Ọmọ ọ̀wọ̀ọ̀rọ̀ wọ́gi nífun dà sígbó
Ajíbógundé ará Ọ̀jọwọ̀n
Níjọ́ tí Làgbàyí ń toko Ọ̀wọ̀n-ọ́n bọ̀
Apa ilé ń sá kíjokíjo
Ìrókò wọn a gbọ̀n jìnnìjìnnì
Wọ́n láà mọ ẹni tí Làgbàyí ó fẹdùn ké
Làgbàyí ará Ọ̀jọwọ̀n
Hence, the movie has not only portrayed the producer, Mr Fẹ́mi Adébáyọ̀ as a great thespian but also as a man that has a deep knowledge about his root despite his relationship with the Western world.
