Oyeku Meji, an Odu Ifá, says:
“Oyeku Meji ni:
Orunmila fi Eshu re
Eshu ni o fi Orunmila re
Orunmila so o l’Ori
Ori ni won da
Orunmila fi Eshu adura
Eshu ni o fi Orunmila otito
Orunmila fi Eshu ebo
Eshu ni o fi Orunmila ogbo”
Translated to English, this means:
“Oyeku Meji says:
Orunmila gave Eshu sacrifice
Eshu is the one who helped Orunmila
Orunmila revealed the secret
The secret is now out
Orunmila offered Eshu a gift
Eshu gave Orunmila truth
Orunmila gave Eshu a sacrifice
Eshu gave Orunmila wisdom”
In this context, Oyeku Meji suggests that Orunmila gave Eshu sacrifice (adura) and offerings (ebo) as a form of gratitude for Eshu’s help in revealing Obatala’s secrets. Eshu, in turn, gave Orunmila truth (otito) and wisdom (ogbo).
